Suggestions For Freshers To Survive In Corporate Jobs
Starting for a new job is one of the best things that can happen to someone who went through the hellish four years at the engineering school and another two at some premium MBA or M.tech College for next 2 years. Getting a job of your choice in the most fruitful environment is the next thing every single person aims for. However, landing among the stars is not only enough if you don’t know how to stay up there and join the constellation. Not every other person out there is fortunate enough to have a mentor for guidance. Your first job might not be that important in terms of your success journey but it is definitely the first door opened to your bright future. You will need to make best use of it.
There are many who believe that one needs to take baby steps into this part of adult world while ensuring that their every step reflects efficiency, cautiousness, and smartness. There are a few other changes that you may want to bring in your life for a better chance to survive. Remember, Mike Ross from “Suits” how his life and schedule changed upside down when he joined Pearson Hardman. It might not be that glamorous but the work culture and pressure might be similar to that. Here are a few things you will need to do mandatorily to survive the first few months:
● The first thing that you need to do is get yourself ready for a hectic schedule. You may have long working hours sometimes extending from 8 to 10 hours. 8–8.5 hours per day will be minimum requirement. You may come home to just eat and sleep for a major part of the week. Initially your weekends might also be engaged because of workshop and assignments. Get yourself used to more disciplined sleeping schedule and develop habit of staying happy and healthy.
● You may also want to start working on your appearance and looks. You will be required to adhere with workplace attire and groom yourself well. Maintain your personal hygiene and stay clean. It is not essential to be handsome or exceptionally beautiful but presentable people are more accepted than the other way round.
● Another thing, you may want to start working on your punctuality if you have a habit of being late or procrastinating every task. It was Okay to be late in college where teachers didn’t give much attention but here getting late might cost you pay cuts and lower remarks on performance. All bad for your career and chances to bright future, so learn to be more disciplined and punctual.
● It is also expected of employees to be polite and respectful all the time. Habit of using swear words, short temper, or being glib might will never work in your favor. From what we gather, brevity, politeness, and a calm nature will be your best friend under all conditions even as an employee and as a boss in later years.
Last and not the least, you may also want to start working as a team player. Learn to be more appreciative about others, their achievements, and other good qualities and have team spirit skills. It will help you in getting more friends and supporters on your side.
