No surprises, here. Fear of the regulator enforces a standardised approach. Like cattle, the herd instinct operates; power commences to structure knowledge and language defining and limiting what is acceptable. Public policy positions stifles the trial of potential solutions for educational issues or hinders their continuance. It is not that having a regulator or regulation is necessarily a bad thing. It is all about who is in control; who regulates the regulator. For Ofsted, Ofqual and their kindred spirits, the cornerstone of their thinking is bound by the desire to impose the nostalgic will to ossify and remove risk. Ask yourself where that attitude originates. Remove all the risks and the playground is only suitable for infants. Remove all the risks and remove all the opportunities… and education becomes a mill grinding out fodder for the cattle market. So, we have an economy of education generating self-fulfilling prophecies.
