Myth & The Hero’s Journey
I am a writer. I love studying the craft, especially those things related to myth, legend and lore, and the human psyche.
It is a passion seeing how the human condition fits into the mythological journey of the hero.
The Writer’s Journey: Mythic Structure For Writer’s by Christopher Vogler is one of my favorites books about story craft.
It holds that place of honor, not because it is about story structure, archetypes or based on Joseph Campbell’s work the authority on the subject of the hero’s journey. It holds that place because it’s about experiencing life and how the journey shapes us, creates us, impacts us and why it matters on a personal level.
If you look deep enough, you will see the archetypes that you’ve met along your hero’s journey in life and how that has affected you. Our journeys shall be many on the hero’s path as we create the reality of our ordinary lives.
We shall meet many archetypes in our adventures e.g. shadow, mentor, herald, threshold guardians, shapeshifters, tricksters and allies in many forms.
Storycraft is still our best educational tool, entertainment source, and means to share our legacies from cave man, throughout history, to today’s journalistic endeavors, books and movies.
No wonder this subject fascinates me and why this book has been one of my all time favorites for studying writing craft. Personal growth and writing craft come together for me within its pages in regards to living and the art of writing.
