I have been working in the supplement industry for over 4 years, and I have
seen changes that have taken place in recent years. Some of the key trends
that I am seeing include:

- *Increased focus on healthy aging:* People are living longer than ever
before, and they are looking for ways to stay healthy and active as they
age. Supplement brands are responding to this demand by developing products that support cognitive health, joint health, and other aspects of healthy aging.
- *Clean eating:* Consumers are increasingly interested in eating a
clean diet, which means avoiding processed foods and artificial ingredients. And we as a supplement brand respond to this trend by
developing products that are made with natural ingredients and are free
from common allergens.
- *Sustainability:* Consumers are also becoming more concerned about the
environmental impact of their purchases. To respond this brands are using
sustainable packaging and sourcing their ingredients from sustainable
sources.

In addition to these trends, I am also seeing a growing awareness of mental
health and a focus on healthy living overall. We and our competitors are
responding to these trends by developing products that support mental
health, sleep, and overall well-being.

I believe that these trends will continue to drive the growth of the
supplement industry in the years to come. Brands that are able to meet the
needs of consumers in these areas will be well-positioned to succeed.

A top-level takeaway about seniors and CBD, is that seniors inherently take a myriad of medications for relief from anxiety, pain and to aid in sleep. Many of the medications prescribed for their ailments are actually shortening their lifespan with the damage they can do to the body. *Many times, these prescriptions come with side effects arguably worse than the problem itself. A few notes below:

1. *Novel Anti-Inflammatory: *CBD is a novel anti-inflammatory, and many
chronic illnesses and issues that pair with chronic pain in older adults,
at their root, cause inflammation.
2. *Less Harmful to Organs:* Due to the fact that getting older necessitates
taking more medication to balance out systems in the body. Many times CBD can serve as a pain relieving agent that is less harmful to organs like the liver than other prescribed pain medications.
3. *Few Contraindications: *There are few contraindications of CBD and it
can pair nicely with many other medications.
4. *Quality sleep = better health:* CBD for sleep is one way to organically
achieve a restful night’s sleep as opposed to other sleep aids that are
harsh on the body.
5. *Endogenous Cannabinoid System:* If you know the feeling of post-workout glow, a feeling of calm, that’s because moving activates our endogenous cannabinoid system. It’s known that in older people, that system starts to become dormant with less movement. CBD can reactivate that system as a natural supplement to allow seniors to feel their best.

I can offer Jelis Temali, of the dietary supplement brand Friska (www.gofriska.com), as a source about current trends driving the supplement industry. Friska is a leading brand carried at major retailers like Target, CVS, and Whole Foods. Their products are uniquely formulated to help support digestive health, better sleep, etc. The products also fall into the “all in one” trend that’s taking place in the industry, or multifunctional supplements that help support multiple dietary needs.

Marketing manager for Best Price Nutrition

This one was perfect for us. I am the marketing manager for Best Price
Nutrition. We sell supplements worldwide. One trend we have seen over the past year is the explosion of anti-aging type supplements mainly due to
TikTok. So much so that we monitor trending supplements/nutrition topics on the channel. Almost every viral supplement through TikTok over the past year dealt with anti-aging or health, especially with women. Because of this, we have vastly increased not only the number of these types of
products, but the countries we ship to as well. It has done well in terms
of increasing our sales, but also has allowed us to help more people than
ever before.

Here’s my take on the trends defining the global supplements market:

1. Mental Health Awareness: As mental health becomes less stigmatized, the demand for supplements that support mental well-being is on the rise. This includes supplements such as omega-3 fatty acids and probiotics that are proven to benefit brain health.

2. Healthy Living: With an increased focus on preventative health, more consumers are turning to supplements to optimize their health. This includes supplements for immune health, energy, and general wellness.

3. Accelerated Digitization: The rise of e-commerce has significantly impacted the supplement industry. Brands are leveraging digital platforms to reach a wider audience and offer personalized recommendations. AI and machine learning are being incorporated to analyze user behavior and suggest appropriate supplements.

4. Demographic Shift of Supplement Users: The demographic of supplement users is expanding. While traditionally targeted towards older adults, younger generations are now recognizing the benefits of supplements for preventative health. This shift is resulting in a broader range of products aimed at different age groups and lifestyles.

5. Sustainability: There’s a growing demand for eco-friendly supplements. Brands are focusing on sustainable sourcing, minimizing packaging waste, and promoting transparency about their environmental impact.

I’d love to share my insights on:

Allie Longo
Director of Blended Strategy Group

After the pandemic, many people shifted toward healthier living, which saw a massive increase in the supplement market. This is great for the market, but might not be the best for consumers. While the vast majority of supplement companies are above board and making great products, as the market increases, there are going to be more companies started that are trying to cut corners to maximize profits. While I love to see the market grow, it does make me nervous given that people’s health hangs in the balance. It’s never been more important for people to really do their research and make sure the companies they’re purchasing supplements from are using the highest quality ingredients.
