Becoming More Self-Aware

A Year of Being Better — Day 19 of 365

Friday, January 22nd, 2016 — Approx. 9:50 P.M.

A large part of improving ourselves is dependent on our being more aware of our own lives.

Not being self-aware is what allows us to eat a piece of chocolate cake without thinking about it when we are on a diet. Even though we are taking some action, we do not take time to consider whether that action is going to contribute to our goals or not. We don’t stop to consider what we are actually doing.

On the other hand, being very self-aware and conscious of the decisions we are making allows us to engineer our own lives so that we reach our goals. Keeping your end goals in focus throughout the day helps you to stop and consider the potential benefits and repercussions of the actions you take, allowing you to make better decisions more consistently.

The best way that I have found to become more self-aware is through some form of journaling.

In the traditional sense, I have been journaling for a few weeks now. Obviously I can’t claim to have reached all of my goals in that time, but journaling has definitely helped me to adjust my thinking and my habits to better work towards my goals. Journaling has also helped me to cut out bad habits that have been holding me back for a long time, making it easier for me to take positive action in other areas.
