#WeekendRecommend — Backpack Superhero/Make Good Art

Here are five of my favourite things this week, what was one of yours?

A) We Carry Kevan

My cousin Kevan Chandler is my Backpack Superhero. Born with Muscular Dystrophy, he has never let his body stop him from chasing his dreams. He’s recorded albums, edited podcasts, ministered to inmates in prison, written comics and novels and short stories, and now he’s proving that he isn’t going to be stuck in a wheelchair his whole life. He is backpacking across Europe…AS ONE OF THE BACKPACKS! He and four devoted friends worked and experimented hard to create a ride-able backpack which would make it easy/comfortable to transport Kevan on their backs. And then they raised money through a GoFundMe campaign which got covered on a number of major news channels to fly to Europe, a place Kevan has dreamed of going his whole life, and are now trekking around, visiting places where Kevan’s favourite authors lived, seeing the great landmarks, hiking up that crazy gorgeous island from the end of The Force Awakens — you know, living the dream.

Follow his adventures on Facebook on the We Carry Kevan page, or check out his blog of his adventure here: http://wecarrykevan.com/blog/

B) Inter Arma — Paradise Gallows

Good gracious this is heavy and gorgeous. Paradise Gallows is a most appropriate name for an album both beautiful and somber.

C) Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson impersonate each other

This is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while. The Rock just kills it. I laughed out loud the second and third times I watched this.

D) Neil Gaiman — Make Good Art [Commencement Speech 2012]

One of the most inspiring things I’ve listened to in a long time. I think I probably need to hear these words about once a week. Thanks to a master story teller for sharing his heart to students of all ages.

People keep working…because their work is good, and because they are easy to get along with, and because they deliver the work on time. And you don’t even need all three. Two out of three is fine. People will tolerate how unpleasant you are if your work is good and you deliver it on time. They’ll forgive the lateness of the work if it’s good, and if they like you. And you don’t have to be as good as the others if you’re on time and it’s always a pleasure to hear from you.

E) Citadel K’NEX Ball Machine

What? Woah.
