#WeekendRecommend — June 3

A) Gold & Shadow — “Dimension”

My good buddies in Gold & Shadow released the first single from their upcoming album Birdhaus recently. It’s a dreamy summer tune which I enjoy quite a lot. Definitely on the summer BBQ playlist this year!

B) Ash vs Evil Dead [TV]

The chainsaw-handed, Boomstick wielding, deadite slaying Ash is back and he’s managed to wake up the Evil Dead…for the third time! I’m a huge fan of the movies and I was a little nervous going into the show (thus why I’m months behind) but DANG is it groovy! All the humour and gore and creative discomfort you want from the franchise. Hail to the king, baby!

C) All of Star Wars in one massive infographic!

Seriously. Just check it out. Super entertaining: http://swanh.net/

D) Frank Zappa — “Orange County Lumber Truck”

Apple Music just released Frank Zappa’s Road Tapes Vol. 1 + 2. Volume 1 (Recorded in Vanvoucer in 1968) is pretty much peak Zappa for me — bizarre and melodically complex, but super fun. But he OPENS with “Help I’m a Rock” one of his more challenging tracks from his first album. Crazy bold. Love it. “Orange County Lumber Truck” is a medley of tunes from the first couple of albums and it makes me super happy. Check it.

E) Whiplash [Movie]

What does it take to be great? I don’t know if Whiplash answers that, but it shows two mens’ attempts at finding it. One, an abusive band instructor, and the other, a driven young drummer. Incredibly tense, but worth the watch. Some great drumming too!
