Gun Control Shouldn’t Be A Dirty Word(s)

You can call this a hit-and-run post about guns and gun control. It is a 3 minute mind dump based off of a comment I made on Facebook about a recent shooting at a high school in Arizona.
Before I share those words let me preface this by saying I am not anti-gun. Not the guy who is “going to try and pry your rifle out of your cold dead hands.”
But I am the guy who rolls his eyes when your immediate response to gun control is to say “it is a proven fact that it doesn’t work.”
Here is the response that generated the idea for this post.
It is a mistake to say that gun laws are ineffective and to suggest that they don’t work because criminals don’t follow the law.
That is like saying a convertible can only be driven during sunny weather.
The reality is that you can drive it when it is raining but it is not going to be the same as if you use it when the skies are blue.
So what you have to do is examine the structure and foundation and figure out how to make appropriate adjustments so that it works.
Same thing applies to gun control and gun laws. You have to spend a little time figuring out how to reconfigure and adjust things.
Not impossible, it just requires effort.

This is not an impossible situation to solve. It is not the type of conundrum that cannot be resolved.
It is a question of willingness, cooperation and effort.
Both sides have to accept compromise and be willing to do more than provide lip service.
There is a solution.
I am not going to tell you I know exactly what it is because I don’t have that, but I am not going to sit back and listen to people say it is impossible either.
There was a time when space travel was science fiction and so was the smartphone most of you have in your pocket or purse.
If we commit to overcoming inertia and to pushing forward we can get there, but only if we commit.
It doesn’t have to be an all or nothing proposition for both sides. There is a place in between.
