A wise man once said to me many years ago, “Don’t be so quick to ascribe to conspiracy what can easily be attributed to stupidity.” His point was that it is more often than not human stupidity at play in any mystery. He was a former U.S. Congressman, so he knew of what he spoke when it came to conspiracies and human stupidity.
Regarding your experience with Bullshitist, they may have dodged you intentionally for their own reasons. Or they may have just missed it. I assume they get a lot of submissions. They sure publish a lot. I’ve missed submissions for THJ from time to time. I usually get notified of submissions via email, but there are times when no email notification comes and content languishes until I get around to checking my “stories” tab. I should do it more often, but things get hectic in my world too. I’ve also dodged a few submissions too, which I’m not proud of. But in my busy world, I sometimes keep putting off telling someone their piece sucks, because that’s no fun for anyone. I usually try to suggest another avenue for them, but if I can’t think of one, I sometimes avoid delivering the bad news. My bad.
I do try to respond quickly with The Hit Job. THJ was born out of frustration with just the situation you experienced with Bullshitist. I got tired of being ignored and/or yanked around by other publications I was working with (Bullshitist has been good to me in my few dealings with them). So I built it up from scratch. Not sure I’d do it again if I knew then what I know now, but we keep on. Who knows what can happen.
