As is so often the case, our outrage is faux. Our fixation is driven by fun. And applying false layers of meaning to such moments is sometimes silly, often damaging, and always a major buzzkill.

Honestly, who is doing that? Stop listening/reading them if they are. At best, they’re just telling you who to stop paying attention to. In that sense, they’re doing us all a service. If the rest of us are having some temporary fun with it, it will show.
