I’m Talking to YOU

Jesse James Decker back to work at CMAs

So about that law, you know the one. The Breaktime for Nursing Mother’s Law. It goes something like this. Well, here is the thing. It is the law (as the name implies) and it applies to everyone. Really, everyone. See image of celebrity above and then work your way across the 4 milllion new mothers in this country specturm — that kind of everyone.

The law applies to all organizations, REGARDLESS of size.

The 50 or more full-time employe loop-hole, clause thing — well it turns out, that is based on an exemption. And in order to get an exemption, you need to file a request with DOL. And then it must be granted. The Journal of Human Lactation clarifies this in their May issue.

So based on the above, here is a big idea (gratis):

Get ahead of the curve, premtively exceed expectation, go beyond basic compliance and send a strong, positive message to parents returning to your work-place. Create a space for pumping milk, make it fabulous. Keep your team feeling supported. Make this an aunthentic part of your cutlure. Share it with messaging that says you mean it — do so loud and proud — internally and externally and from the highest mountain. Total cost, maybe $500. Which then amortized is nothing, less than nothing.

Here is a quick look at how Harvard Business Review suggests you get it done (thank you Scott Behson for co-authoring with me).
