Stop You’re Killing Yourself

What you really don’t know about meat

Majority of human beings on earth eat meat. They believe that meat is required for a healthy lifestyle. They believe vegans and vegetarians are unable to get the proper amount of nutrition from only plant products. They fail to realize that a vegan diet is the same as any healthy diet. (Zevinik) Human Beings should live a vegetarian lifestyle to pursue a healthier, longer, life and to help save animals from slaughter.

Depending on who is asked, many people may or may not already know that humans were originally vegetarians. Adam and Eve were the first humans and lived a strict vegetarian diet. The Bible states that god said “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food”. (Messina 9) Although many of us are no longer religious, the Bible is our best and most accurate human resource he has ever encountered. It is also proven that dairy was never able to be digested by the early human body (Messina 9) Humans have transformed their body to be able to intake such strong chemicals such as milk, cheese, and eggs.

During the Ice Age, the chances of finding plant based foods were very slim. This forced humans to eat meat in order to survive. Since then, majority of people on earth have been meat eaters. (Messina 10) If the ice age had never occurred, majority of mankind would have relied purely on vegetables alone. Humans would have lived longer and healthier lives than what is current today.

Many people are unaware that vegetarians live longer than the average meat eating human being. When humans consume only plant based food they eat less cholesterol, saturated, trans, and mono-saturated fats which should be avoided to ensure a healthy lifestyle. By reducing or completely excluding these nutrition’s, a person can lower their chances of getting heart disease, gallstones, stroke, and cancer. (RallyHealth) It is also proven that a person with high blood pressure can completely eliminate the need for medication by switching to vegetarianism or veganism (PCRM).

In America, weight is huge problem. Studies show that teens overweight are twice more likely to be teased, bullied, have diabetes, and suffer from depression than the average person (Messina 33). If any, there are very few vegetarians on earth that are overweight. Typically, vegetarians are slim. The best and most effective way to lose weight is to avoid these unwanted foods easier than the average meat eater. Vegetarians are also naturally high in fiber, which also helps weight loss (Health). If the world was vegetarian weight would no longer be a problem. In some cases, humans would have a harder time gaining weight than actually losing it.

There is only one advantage meat eaters have over vegetarians. That is protein. Meat eaters get more protein a day than they would need for the week. However, unlike what most people think, it is not difficult for vegetarians to gain enough protein at all. Author of Diet for a Small Plant quoted “I don’t think we need to worry about high protein. If we get some protein in most of the foods we eat, we’ll easily meet out protein needs”. The chances of anyone being protein deficient is the almost the same as being sodium deficient. Both are nearly impossible. When someone states that vegetarians can’t possibly get enough protein throughout the day from solely plant foods, they are wrong. (Messina 75)

Aside from how easy it is to get protein, the protein consumed from plant foods such as beans, tofu, and soy products are healthier than the protein consumed from meat. Vegetables like broccoli contain more than three grams of protein in a half cup alone, making broccoli “more protein dense than ground beef”. (Messina 79) Proteins from animals such as beef contain a large amount of sodium and cholesterol. Proteins from plants contain only nutrition’s that benefit the human body.

Jenifer’s opinion on animal rights:

In 1997, 15 year old California High school student, Jenifer Graham, refused to dissect a frog in her biology class, arguing that it was morally wrong to kill animals just so they could be dissected. After receiving a C in the class for failing to complete the assignment, she sued the school district for refusing to allow her to do another project. (Animal Rights)

There are very few people on earth that is like Graham. People like Graham realize that animals have feelings. Seventy-two humans believe that as long as it benefits our wants, there is no problem letting animals suffer for our liking (Animal Rights). These people fail to realize that humans are animals as well. If a gorilla was killing thousands humans because we contain a nutrition that benefits their wants would it right? Thankfully, very few humans believe that animals deserve no rights. However, more people should realize that human have feelings as well. Dogs cry.

Everybody eats. All living things are required to eat in order to survive. Eating is a need. However, what humans choose to eat and how they prepare it is a want. Many people make false assumptions and think that meat is need. They are wrong. As a result, they eat an abundance of meat every day. Some consume more meat than vegetables. Sadly, they continue to believe the wrong statements. They will never know that they are actually killing their self.
