What do they say? “You never want to meet your heroes”? We saw this when the Internet swooned over the loss of David Bowie, and then the immediate follow-up with “well, yeah, he raped teenage girls — can we still love him?” It is what it is: people are complex. Cosby is flawed, a sexual predator, AND created a network sitcom stage for envisioning a successful Black family to a generation that needed to see this. He did both. The story is harder to tell this way, but that’s life. If we’re honest, most heroes are closer to Cosby than Huxtable.
