Although I agree with the vast majority of what Ian’s saying about UX design—what its deliverables are and what its value proposition is—I disagree with the generalizations he makes about geographies.

I recently moved from LA to the Bay, and in looking for a job up here the vast majority of positions I interviewed for in product/UX design were basically, “We need someone to make UI mocks for this questionable idea that the product manager has decided is the way to go. The questions you’re bringing up are great, but can you just sketch what we’re asking for?”
