Find Your Answers
I was not shocked when I heard the news that Chester Bennington, the lead vocalist of Alternative Rock band Linkin Park has committed suicide. Instead, I was sad. Like most of us, I was thinking why would such a successful person do something like that. What could have gone wrong? What urges people to commit suicide?
Maybe this could have been avoided. Maybe someone could have been there to stop him. But I guess, that’s the reality of life. No one is around you when you need people the most. You have to be strong enough to hold yourself together in such a situation. To give yourself hope. To see that you are the ultimate chance to save yourself. To realize that you are the ultimate power.
I guess Chester could not realize this. And many other people that take their own lives fail to realize this. It’s not his or their fault. I think it is one of the hardest things in life to deal with. To find your own answers.
Chester was a victim of bullying in his childhood. Even when he became successful and popular, those childhood scars never left him. He could not get it out of his mind. He was also a regular victim of drug addiction in his adult years and depression throughout his life. He could not find his answers until his death. Maybe he could not get enough advice, enough support or enough medication. No one knows.
This shows that fame and money are not the ultimate answers. No matter how much money or fame you acquire, no matter how hard or priviledged your life has been, if you don’t find your own answers, you will end up badly. Of course, money is essential but it’s not the ultimate answer.
I think Chester was writing his life through his songs. You can clearly see what he was going through over the years. If you can see that, you can also see what someone you know could be going through. It can be your friend, your family member, your coworker. Don’t sit and wait until they die. Help them. Sometimes, just talking to them can be rewarding. Many significant lives can be saved if you just speak up.
I know that finding your own answers is difficult. And most of us run away from difficult stuffs. But this is your own life I am talking about here. You cannot run away from it. You have to stop and ask questions about it and only you have to find their answers. Otherwise, there is no other way around.
It’s true that we have lost a part of our childhood. We have grown listening to his powerful voice. Chester was a genius. His singing inspired a whole generation. He will always be remembered.
