We’ve recently finished reviewing the Mueller investigation report section on activity by the Internet Research Agency, which has helped spread dissent online for years, and helped organized Trump rallies on the ground in Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania. We watched this frightening TED talk where investigative journalist Carole Cadwalladr calls on Facebook, Google, and Twitter to stop allowing right-wing agents to manipulate people on their platforms. She straight up warns about the end of liberal democracy worldwide — Cadwalladr is the journalist who uncovered the Cambridge Analytica data mining scandal. That company, backed by one of the world’s richest men (who stands to lose billions if he loses influence with the IRS) worked for Ted Cruz, Donald Trump, and the pro-Brexit crew.
While it will be great if the social media companies stop rewarding outrage online, we can’t sleep on it. Trump and his allies will spend hundreds of millions on digital advertising this cycle. It will make the Russian efforts to influence our elections seem puny.
We started The Lefty League because we know that Democrats aren’t doing enough online to fight back. Most Senate campaigns will spend single digits of their media budget on digital. Other party influencers are pulling back from Facebook in protest — rather than digging in and using the platform to win and break it up, as Senator Warren has suggested.
Today, we’re writing to share information about how you can help stand up to Trump’s internet bullies. We know that by taking the fight right to the GOP, we can wake up the same electorate that took back the House. We need to be taking that fight to the GOP in every single district, and we need to be doing it early enough to make a big difference. That’s why we’ve launched initial efforts to dog the “Sinister Seven,” the remaining GOP reps in California’s 53 member Congressional delegation.
Each of these men voted against the Violence Against Women Act, denies climate change is real, and votes in lockstep with Trump:
Ca 1: Doug LaMalfa (R), since 2013
Ca 4: Tom McClintock (R), since 2009
Ca 8: Paul Cook (R), since 2013
Ca 22: Devin Nunes (R), since 2003
Ca 23: Kevin McCarthy (R), since 2007
Ca 42: Ken Calvert (R), since 1993
Ca 50: Duncan D. Hunter (R), since 2009
We are going to troll them right out of office.
Our ads laying out the truth about these dinosaurs have already reached tens of thousands targeted voters in California. Your small donation today will help us fund more statewide ads as well as targeted efforts in their districts. The Lefty League is entirely funded by the grassroots and your donations tell us which projects to focus on. If you want the Sinister Seven swept out of California and the Congress, hammer that donate link.
