Your Best Free Drink Story, Please, Straight Up
Ester Bloom

All my best free drink stories come from law school, when I was single, between the ages of 21 and 24, in a medium sized city with a large university, and had many many opportunities to be at bars. I think it was lost in the transition to Medium, but I once left a comment with an excellent Vegas bottle service story that involved a friend impersonating a celebrity and securing us all a free table at a posh club. Aside from that, I especially cherish this memory: a member of a relatively popular 90s hip hop group entered the fratty bar I was in and sent someone from his entourage up to the bar with a credit card. The lackey sidled up next to my friend and me and told the bartender “let me know when the tab hits $1000,” then walked off. My friend and I looked at each other, then at the bartender, and then I promptly ordered us two beers each on the tab. The bartender happily obliged.
