The Local Dropout Essentials: The Fox — Tokaholi Chishi

There are artists whose place in the scheme of things is a mere placeholder then there are artists, who don’t take their artistry and the attention of their audience for granted — Tokaholi, with her precise employment of lush imagery and salutary melody choices, is one such artist.
Much like a grand fable that has been lost to the times and now float as a feeble whisper in the ether awaiting weary travelers who dare throw themselves into the wilderness to submit to its offerings, ‘The Fox’ in its modest runtime of over four minutes unfurls its ornate tapestry subverting expectations at every turn by parking surprises around corners where you would least expect. And like a long-lost friend you have been aching to encounter down the long and winding road, or a memory of a certain place in your past that time with all its might fail to taint, you find yourself carrying away a part of the resigned melancholy and impish reverie that the song inspires — its pain and joy stirring within is now yours to share.
The mythical fox, a creature of the woods that the song alludes to presumably in association of its storied trait of sheer cunning to a certain lover from the past, or whatever the singer held it to, could very well stand in for each of our own tribulations that leave us wanting for a little sunshine after the long dark night. May this forest with its hawk, wolf and the eponymous fox find you in your moment of weakness when words spoken and weighed on the scale of your delicate heart bring you no comfort and your hands reach for that natal home in your mind where like a baby vulnerable to the elements, you wish to be swaddled in the care of a greater force that demands no description for its presence is an assurance enough.
VERDICT: A strong 8/10. A timeless classic.
