How a Stolen Bag Ruined My Weekend
So as some of you know — being an entrepreneur / business owner requires one to travel quite frequently.
And as per usual; I spend my entire weekend waiting in airports and looking out of windows — dinner meetings and corporate meetings; sometimes 4 or 5 a day.
So it’s not entirely out of the question to assume that I’ve lost some baggage throughout my travels — usually nothing more than a few pairs of pants and some shirts — nothing to cry about.
Well — that all ends here…
Over my weekend travels; I ventured to an airport in New York State (won’t say which one) and began waiting to board my flight (some an hour or so away)
So I took out my prized Macbook and began hashing out some new ideas and answering a few emails — while my cell phone; typically in my hand or in my pocket, was now lifeless in my leather bag. (as for a few other items like chargers and headphones etc…)
Upon 20 or so minutes passing I slipped my laptop back into my bag and began walking to board my flight.
I noticed a fellow watching me from a close distance; cell phone in hand — he called out to me and asked for a photo (I obliged because I’m not a total d*ck)
I sat my bag down at my feet and posed with him for a quick photo — it was a Snapchat photo to be exact.
Upon doing so — exchanging mindless chit chat with the man; I noticed my leg no longer felt the weight of my bag — only to look down and see that my bag (and all the contents) were gone.
Just like that.
I was livid. I began to angrily search for a bag that looked similar — to no end.
I had to board that last flight from New York to home with no phone, no laptop, no headphones — nothing.
Luckily the laptop has been disabled now (phone as well) to ensure no sensitive information has been leaked in any way (about clients, ideas etc…)
And upon arriving home I quickly stopped by the nearest Apple store and obtained the most recent versions of my stolen devices — got all the data back and ultimately walked away relatively unscathed.
I don’t blame the man who I sat my bag down for — he had no idea (at least I’m going to assume he didn’t)
I more so blame my blindness to the situation.
A situation that resulted in hundreds of thousands in missed revenue — disconnections between clients — the list goes on and on.
I’ve since began to slowly get back with those who I missed out on conversing with over those short 3 or 5 hours I was without devices.
Hopefully the damage isn’t too bad :P
Moral of the story; don’t lose your fu**ing bag!
