The finer details of individual liberty can, at times, be ugly. A very stark truth is that, in protecting the rights of the individual from the vagaries of the omnipotent state and its unwieldy exercise of its monopoly on what is considered legitimate force, we who are dedicated to a free society often find that we must tolerate things from others that we would rather do without. The finer points of what should be considered tolerable can at times be murky, at best. …

In the wake of recent mass shootings, in a halfhearted attempt to placate an overly simplistic population’s demands, several companies’ knee-jerk response has been to take an “anti-gun” stance- whatever that means. For Delta, it meant no longer offering a small discount to NRA members. For Dick’s, it meant, no longer selling “assault” rifles. For YouTube, it meant that the online video sharing platform would ban videos that promote or link to websites selling firearms and accessories as well as prohibit videos with instructions on how to assemble firearms.

While YouTube is a privately-owned company and therefore has the right…

Here we go again:

It was almost a year ago that us Libertarian Party members had to deal with the after effects of Arvin Vohra posting things on his Facebook page, in public comments, that were disgraceful…..and here we are again. Last year it was a verbal lashing and judgment of our military members followed by our teachers. Now we are faced with addressing his public comments about the age of consent regarding teenagers having sexual relations between themselves and other teenagers and teenagers having sexual relations with adults. Were he not the Vice Chairman of the Libertarian National Committee…

On December 18, 2017 a news release came out about Maranatha, a secluded Christian commune located near Walterboro, South Carolina. The article explains that this commune, run by “Brother” Ralph Gordon Stair, who leads the “Overcomer Ministry”, is a real life hell for some people that have had to endure living there. This news article was shocking news around the local area where it was published, but it was more than shocking to a young lady named Rachel Vargo. To Rachel, this brought out an explosion of emotions. It was only about 7 years ago…

A year ago this month, I can recall with great clarity as many of my fellow millenials were posting misguided BuzzFeed articles on “How to Move to Canada in Six Easy Steps,” I was on the verge of calling my parents and asking if I could come home to Canada myself- not because I was upset with the election results, but because my friends in local law enforcement told me that unfortunately, I was ineligible for witness protection. …

Left-wing market anarchists sure can be an interesting bunch, with their focus on egalitarianism as the raison d’être for the free market, and their general contempt for real property. To wit, the mutualist/agorist crowd holds that whole free market operations allow for the unlimited accrual of personal property, private property is a breach of the common ownership of natural resources. In their view, mixing one’s labor with extant natural resources bestows no special privileges on the industrious, who have simply undertaken to improve the overall lot of the commons.

This suspicious attitude towards full private property rights is certainly nothing…

Friends in Liberty,

I am writing to you to inform you of a FANTASTIC Libertarian movement that is creating a frenzy across the United States right now. We want to make sure that every Libertarian is aware of what is happening. In a quest to walk the walk and display the Libertarian belief in non-governmental solutions to our problems, a coalition was formed to address Hurricane Harvey in Texas.

What began with an idea between a father, Brent DeRidder, and his daughter, has now exploded into a mass effort involving Libertarians from all over the…

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

-Amendment IV, Constitution of United States of America 1789 (rev. 1992)

In American civil society, it is largely assumed that citizens are protected from the government arbitrarily divesting individuals of their possessions, and, in fact, the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution ostensibly guarantees that very protection…
