The problem is much worse. A small number of them may know they are liars, but the vast majority do not know it. Whites do not see themselves as being part of a race. They do not see how white supremacy plays out in their personal lives, and how it has been institutionalized and reproduced for many decades. White supremacy is part of the bedrock of our society, and part of the self-definition of many Americans. The question, of course, is how and when we can finally address white supremacy and make it a thing of the past. Unfortunately, this is not likely to happen while Republican fascists hold all the power.
