How you position your business in the minds of your prospects can give you a tremendous edge and advantage over your competition. OR it can cause you to commoditize yourself and blend in with the crowd.
When you own a small company with limited resources, you need all the advantages you can get. Particularly if you are in a highly competitive industry and more established companies are viewing you as a threat.
This is particularly common in the real estate industry. If you are a real estate agent, you have unreal amounts of competition. While personalities and quality of service differ from agent to agent, at the end of the day they all are offering basically the same service.
To increase your odds of success, you, as a real estate agent, have to create a unique competitive advantage for yourself. This advantage has to be clear, valuable to your prospects, and unique to you. This is the defining characteristic that you become know for in your market.
For example: You are the only real estate agent in town who pays for the client’s moving company. Or you are the only real estate agent that refunds commissions if the client is not 100% satisfied with your service.
As your market gets more crowded, you will need to get more creative with finding and solving problems for you prospects and clients. Positioning your business to solve problems that your competitors have overlooked will give you that extra competitive advantage that you need to win.
Analyze your competition and determine what problems they are NOT solving in the marketplace. Often these are simple pain points that the industry as a whole is overlooking. When you create solutions for these problems, the market will reward you.
