I think these conversations around nuanced positions are happening all the time to varying degrees and in a wide range of ways, in classrooms, online, among friends and colleagues. The conversations themselves may sometimes be hard because of what is at stake and disagreements about strategy and intentions, but the understanding of nuance isn’t. People navigate those nuances everyday in lived experience, but just aren’t always skilled at articulating them (esp. many students who stumble upon this whole set of language and ideas for exploring and engaging with social justice issues, but are still learning how best to leverage it, which can only happen through practice).
