When given the choice between a faster unlock and some kind of extra gesture or delay with the intention of preserving lock-screen information, I would undoubtedly choose the former. The precious milliseconds it takes for my 6+ Touch ID reader to recognize my print drives me to the edge of insanity each and every day. I empathize with the sense of loss and confusion that comes with occasionally feeling you’ve missed something due to a premature unlock, but that risk is not enough for me to consider inhibiting the Touch ID for the other 95% of the time when it isn’t an issue.

I think we can all agree the expansive dimensions of our current smartphones cause a number of annoying problems for those of us who don’t always have two free hands, but it seems fundamental changes are needed to remedy this sweeping problem, rather than temporary bandaids that detract from universal intuition.
