Why You Should Stop Asking People To Do Things For Free?
I am sorry if that might shock some of you, but I’d need to cross the T’s and dot the I’s as I believe the minority of people online are taking the knowledge shared by freelancers/influencers/experts/ online entrepreneurs for granted.
I really do not mind where you find the information that would help you reach the success you need in your life. The Internet is a goldmine of information and you are only a couple clicks away to find the answers to your problems.
I decided to create my blog to share my own personal experience because I believe this could help some of you who are motivated individuals and are aspiring for a better life.
But who say better life say investment and sacrifices.
Nothing and I repeat NOTHING comes for free in life!
I don’t mind sharing the dish I cooked but I do mind sharing my recipe for free.
If you are willing to make a change in your life, find a way to do it.
I come from a background where I learned how to do everything on my own without having a silver spoon feeding me. Something I find regrettable nowadays is that more and more people are looking for a quick fix!
How can I make money fast?
How can I increase my Instagram followers fast?
How can I take better photography fast?
And I find it really sad and insulting at the same time. Most successful online entrepreneurs have invested time, money and effort into crafting their brands and sharing their knowledge with the world. The success people see is just the tip of the Iceberg but nobody pays attention to the journey that made them who they are today.
Your journey and the way you live your life define who you are and who you are going to be.
If you are just looking for a quick fix, go on YouTube and binge watch all the videos available on the platform. If you do your research well you might find some hidden gems but otherwise, you will just be wasting your time! Trust me I have done it!
But if you are looking at building a solid business that will last for years, then you need to invest in yourself. And that means you need to educate yourself to get the necessary knowledge to reach your goals.
And the best way to do it nowadays is to find someone who is already where you want to be and ask for their help.
BUT, and I’d like to emphasise with the but here!
You also need to realize that the most precious thing we own in our lives is TIME.
So before reaching out to potential mentors, make sure to do your homework on them.
Do they have a blog where they share their knowledge?
Do they have a private Facebook group you could leverage?
Do they have any training available? Whether they are free or not
Why am I saying that? It’s because I have noticed lately that people only want FREE stuff!
If you would like to get something for free, then make sure to be able to trade something in return that could be valuable to the person you’d like to reach out.
This is what people do on the job market. They are ready to trade their skills to work for their ideal company.
This is what influencers do with brands. They are ready to trade their influence via social media to collaborate with brands to help them achieve their business goals.
Asking someone for their help without even thinking of the benefits for them to trade their time to help you is just selfish and disrespectful.
So to anyone aspiring to build a better future and willing to put in the effort to make a change in your life, here is a few advice:
1. Invest in yourself. Get the knowledge you need to be the person you want to become
2. Surround yourself with people striving with the same goal. By surrounding yourself with people who are at the same level as you are, you can become accountable partners and grow together towards the goal you wish to achieve.
3. If you’d like to find yourself a mentor make sure that you have an offer for them they could be interested in to trade their time to help you.
I have been holding this thought for a little while now but I believe it was much needed in the day and age we live in.
I do not mind guiding someone on the right track to reach their success, but when it comes to providing my expertise for free, it really depends on the context. And 97% of the time, people are just looking for a freequick fix!
What about you? What are your thoughts on people looking for quick fix for free? I am curious to know your thoughts and if you’d have had similar experiences.
