Alcohol Addiction

When I drink I sink into the depths of despair.

Whenever you are drinking in excess and regularly, beware, alcohol is NOT the route to your happiness. Sure it will give you a buzz after the first couple of shots but once you cross that fine line of feeling happy, loose and can take on the world, the wind will change direction and sweep you out to sea. If you are sitting at home alone, night after night drinking to feel better

You could be suffering from alcohol dependency.

The truth is you can only drink when you are able with confidence turn down the next one and never be tempted to think drinking stops you being lonely. Instead we must learn to enjoy being alone. Overcoming any addiction can be a long and bumpy road, especially alcohol dependency. At times, it may feel impossible to even contemplate the idea of life without a drink. But it’s not. If you’re ready to STOP drinking and get the help you need, you can recover from any self-abuse, no matter how weak you feel.

Don’t wait until you hit rock bottom; you can make a change at any time.

Whether or not you want to successfully cut back on your drinking depends on the severity of your drinking problem. If you’re an alcoholic — which, by definition means you must have a drink to function — it’s probably better to try to stop drinking completely. But if you’re not ready to give up completely, or if you don’t have an alcohol abuse problem but want to cut back because you recognise you are heading in the wrong direction, set goals and limit your intake to a few drinks twice a week.

We don’t need to drink to forget, we need to forget to drink.

The good news for all you fantastic people who have decided you want to give up drinking, our liver is very resilient and can recover quickly without alcohol. And if that is not a good enough incentive, for the rest of you think of all those calories you will save getting you closer to the body you always dream about.

Tomorrow never comes so make your choice today.

If you flop down in front of the TV after a stressful busy day with a bottle of wine to help you relax remember; alcohol will give you a sleepless night and leave you feeling exhausted at the start of the new day. Instead push yourself and go out for a walk/run and get a natural high, helping you relax and sleep like baby.

3 Martinis are too many. Drunks always finish last.

Your unconscious behavior, your drinking patterns and bad habits are nothing more than mental garbage you end up carrying around with you that dictate the outcome of your daily life. How can you say you had a great time if your were so drunk you cannot remember a thing?

You are in charge of your choices, remember.

What we learn as we develop through childhood becomes our intimate personal drama we believe is what makes us who we are. In many ways we cling to and nurture these patterns because we feel lost without them and have nothing to replace them with and this is why the thought of giving up drinking leaves us feeling empty and lost. Go to your journal and have it out with yourself everyday. Repeat your truth. See it not from a judgmental place but as an invisible observer, putting space between your reality and your truth.

Everyone’s needs are different, so find what works for you by exploring.

You have to get to know the real you and begin to heal your past to be able to be released from your addictions. Drink is a plaster you can temporarily mask your internal pain with. It can give you unbelievable amounts of fake confidence and trick you into thinking you are invincible, popular, and powerful but the truth is without it, you will never be happy unless you change.

Wipe the slate clean and begin to heal, don’t be afraid of change and learn how to feel.
