Let’s face it, when it comes to the ancient Romans, there are a lot of unanswered questions. Were they really into orgies? Did they use olive oil for lube? And perhaps the most pressing question of all: What was the deal with Mark Antony’s sexuality?

For those of you who slept through your high school history class, Mark Antony was a Roman general and statesman who lived in the first century BC. He’s best known for his tumultuous relationship with Cleopatra, the queen of Egypt, and for being one of Julius Caesar’s closest allies. But what most people don’t know is that Mark Antony’s sexual orientation has been a topic of debate for centuries.

So, was Mark Antony gay? Well, it’s complicated. In ancient Rome, sexuality was viewed very differently than it is today. There wasn’t a clear-cut divide between homosexuality and heterosexuality. Instead, people were more fluid in their sexual preferences and engaged in a variety of sexual activities with both men and women.
