No Man’s Log #004 110816b

I’ve decided to stay in the Yasrril System for the time being. The planets here seem to be resource rich and I think it is best to prepare a bit for whatever craziness awaits me in the next sector. It should also give me the chance to work towards upgrading my equipment which for the most part is currently quite, well…crap.

These ships were flying around the same outpost on Frostjarlmir for no apparent reason

I have mainly been concentrating my efforts on exploring Frostjarlmir’s frozen wastes. Despite the desolate landscape I have been rewarded with plenty of resources. So much that I have had to make multiple trips to the nearest Space Station to sell the excess supplies. As my Credits balance grows so does my hunger for a bigger and better ship that a trader might be willing to sell me.

I have also uncovered a few more mysteries about the Korvax. Mainly that they are a Collective of sentient machines rather than a singular race. My encounters with them have also continued to be pleasant with members of the Korvax seemingly taking a default non-aggressive and even sub-servant stance with me. Although there was one instance when a lone Korvax researcher I met was so scared by the sight of my kitted out Multi-Tool that it wiped its own brain from what I can understand. Becoming a new and different individual in the process. What must have been going on in its head to it to come to and choose that option? Since then I have been a lot more cautious when approaching new Sentient Korvax Collective members.

The key find on Frostjarlmir so far has been another Observatory, Korvaxian in origin this time, that had been left to gather data by itself.

I felt smart for the first time since this ordeal started

Instead of blindly typing in numbers which I thought looked correct. This time I took the time to figure out the sequence presented to me. (The pattern was that the order of the numbers had to be different from all the previous orders) When I worked it out the panel projected an image of the planet for me. I doubt this will be the same for all Observatories that I find but it was a small victory.

I assume from this that the Korvax have mapped the entirety of Frostjarlmir’s surface and nearby planets

The gathered data pointed me in the direction of a ruin some distance away. So I hopped into my ship, which I really should give a name, and headed across Frostjarlmir’s cold, harsh lands. Nestled into what looked like a huge carved out section of a mountain proudly stood this remnant of a forgotten time in the history of the Korvax. The Ruins of Etiussosc-Apol. Try saying that five times, fast!

I’d imagine there used to be a lot more to this structure at one point

Within it I found knowledge stones that increased my understanding of the Korvax language. Including oddly the Korvax word for Korvax. Along with a pyramid shaped plaque. Fearing another pain inducing vision I approached it cautiously and touched its humming surface. It instantly sprung to life and filled my mind with echoes from the past. These are the words that swirled around in my head,

“Knowledge paves the way to the understanding of probability. The Atlas spoke in fragments. The Atlas Interfaces are their shadows. The monoliths are their scattered children. Together they convey the wisdom of the infinite.
They must be understood.”
Far more size appropriate than the Gek Plaque I encountered on Winkle

So it seems the Korvax may have once been in a similar position to me. Discovering parts of Atlas and struggling to understand what it all means. It also confirms my suspicions that Atlas’ reach is far and it has played a part in shaping the stars I am exploring. I don’t know whether to be amazed or terrified by this confirmation. Only time will tell.

In less ominous news, I found and purchased yet another new Multi-Tool!

Lightweight and Combat Ready!

My new Regemenu Mark XVI is a fully kitted out damage dealing beast thanks to a few upgrades from yours truly. It even made light work of multiple Sentinels that attacked me recently when I tried to blast my way into a dormant Korvax Operations centre.

The terminal I found in the Operations Centre was completely in Korvaxian. I only understood one word so my blind attempt to select the next part of the apparent workflow I was looking at failed. So the facility remains dormant. But I now have even more of an urge to learn as much of the Korvax language as I can. The more I can understand the better I can get a grip on exactly what has happened here.

That’s all for now.
