King’s Lynn to Great Yarmouth: the Norfolk Coast Cycleway

The Norfolk Shore Cycleway runs from King’s Lynn to Great Yarmouth along the coast. It is a combination of on-road and off-road routes, using peaceful byways and bike paths. The route traverses some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery in Norfolk, including the salt marshes of Holme and Scolt Head islands, the sand dunes at Winterton-on-Sea, and the beach at Sea Palling.

Along the route, there are also some tourist attractions, including Sheringham Park, Houghton Hall, and Holkham Hall. The route is acceptable for cyclists of all skill levels, however some sections may be more difficult for novices.

CANOEING, KAYAKING AND PADDLEBOARDING NORTH NORFOLK COAST

Paddling a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard is an excellent way to explore the coastal waters, sceneries, and wildlife of Norfolk. In Norfolk, there are numerous reliable rental firms that supply equipment and instruction. There are also plenty of opportunities for skilled kayakers and canoeists to take to the water. The varied coastline of Norfolk offers a variety of paddling opportunities, from protected creeks and rivers to more difficult open-water crossings.

Before venturing out on the water, regardless of your level of competence, be sure to verify the tide times and weather conditions. Conditions on the water can change rapidly.

HEACHAM AND HUNSTANTON SUNSETS

Both Heacham and Hunstanton are wonderful sites to view the sunset. If you are blessed with excellent weather, you will enjoy sitting on the beach and watching the sun set over the water. Our campground is only a few minutes’ walk from Heacham Beach, which makes it an ideal spot for this!

NORFOLK WILDLIFE

The coast of Norfolk is home to an abundance of animal species, making it an ideal destination for animal lovers and families. Take a trip to Park Farm and have a guided tour on the back of a tractor trailer, ride the Wash Monster across The Wash to visit the seals, or perhaps take a stroll down to Wild Ken Hill, a rewilding project dedicated to restoring 1,500 acres of Norfolk land to its natural state so it can become wild once again. Observe distinct populations of wild animals, including beavers, cattle, wild boar, kites, owls, and bats, among others.

There are numerous excellent coastline trails to explore on foot or by bicycle. If riding is not your thing, why not take a leisurely stroll (or strenuous trek!) down the coastline? From breathtaking cliffs to natural fauna, Peddars Way offers a plethora of scenic views. Consider yourself somewhat of a water baby? Embrace the British waters and rent a paddle board! Paddle gently through the open sea while admiring the local beauty and sunsets for the ultimate couple’s activity! Kayaking is another wonderful couple’s sport. Rent a kayak and collaborate while paddling along the gorgeous Norfolk coast.

PLACES TO EAT & DRINK

The coast of Norfolk is teeming with independent stores and companies that sell a variety of locally sourced foods. The Rose & Crown is a quintessential Norfolk country inn, complete with winding hallways and secret corners, low ceilings and old beams, pamment flooring, log fireplaces, good beers, friendly staff, and a relaxed, casual environment. Additionally, they are dog-friendly! If you’re looking for something unique, drive around 20 minutes to Thornham Deli, which is somewhat further out. However, the travel is well worth it due to the availability of fresh pastries, coffee, and meals. Take a stroll down the gorgeous beach where birds nest in the dunes, and then unwind with a cup of coffee at the cafe.
