To the folks at OKCupid,

In my opinion, you have made three mistakes.

Firstly, you did not give any warning that this change was coming. I just signed into my account today and the Visitors tab was gone. No heads up. Nothing. To remove a feature and not announce it ahead of time is bad business and inconsiderate.

Secondly, Visitors was a very helpful feature and not at all a distraction. It made OKC much more useful than sites like Tinder. This is how I was able to connect with several women, most of whom were too shy to reach out to a guy or just preferred that a guy like or message her first.

Thirdly, most people commenting found the feature useful and don’t believe that you removed the feature in order to make your service more useful. Instead, most people believe you did it in order to force people to sign up for the paid A-List. In other words, most people think you LIED. This is not good and is very damaging to your reputation as a company and the service you provide, both to paid and unpaid clients. It will also be a deterrent for people to sign up for your paid service since this feature was valuable for those who paid to be able to interact with those who do not.

My hope is that you will see how much blow-back you are getting and realize that removing the Visitors feature was a really BAD idea. If you don’t restore the feature, your service is no longer that useful so I (and I am sure many others) will be looking for alternative sites to meet people. Too bad because this was my favorite site. No longer.
