For Us the Bells Toll

Twenty eight years ago, in the year that I was born,
The crowd took to the street with souls torn
With heavy heart for their lost past
And hopes for future brighter still,
They had enough of it at last,
Of bending to another’s will.
They stormed the squares, “Freedom!” they chanted
Against the oppressive regime,
The military too had landed
And fought against the rebels’ dream.
But soon the army changed their mind
And joined the rebels, guns in hand,
They left their orders far behind
And helped the freedom loving band.
Thus they prevailed, but sick disease
Pervaded in our rule with ease,
It’s time to cleanse our country’s rule
Of those who wish to serve themselves,
No more must we play the fool
As justice tries to toll its bells.
