Judicial reforms: Child-friendly courts

Telangana joined Goa and Delhi this week in instituting child-friendly courts, based on the concept developed by Justice and Care (fortunately for some of us, a facebook account is not needed to view said Court’s photos on their page…).

The Court is designed to make child-witnesses and victims feel safe and secure before appearing before a judge, who will not be sitting on a dais. The accused will not be present in the court, precluding the possibility of intimidation, but will be able to view the proceedings through video conferencing. More details here and here..

Recommended child-friendly justice practices worldwide can be found on the Child Rights INternational website (opens a pdf) or the Council of Europe website.
