Ok this in itself is ignorant, racist, and oppressive. Plain and simple. Black people do not have to dress a way or act a way to “not appear threatening to whites.” that’s insipid. It assumes that the problem is the inherent perceived threat of simply being black, and not whites racist ideas and beliefs. We don’t have to smile at white people, anymore than a woman HAS to smile at a man. MLK was murdered wearing a suit, just like Trayvon was murdered wearing a hoodie. Racism killed them both not their outfits. Instead of telling black people to try to appear meek, and forego their rights to exist and dress in a manner that they want, teach whites to admit their bias, and end their racist behavior.
