I spent the money I had already spent on flights/tickets on those things.

Then I spent no money. My parents took me out for several meals, we drove around Amish country, and they bought my groceries and gave me money for laundry.

Then yesterday I got a job offer! I am not going to be unemployed! I am going to have a job at a public university where I get to teach PhD students. (I know these things can fall apart, but they sent me a PDF version of the offer they are sending my some express mail service today. So I think it should work out.) (I have been looking for a better academic job than the one I had since I graduated in 2013). The salary to cost of living looks amazing.

Maybe now I will look for a car with my insurance settlement.
