Just as the base model did flawlessly with parkour, brutal melee attacks and deep customization of weapons and your character, The Following takes all of those elements and adds to it. The environment has morphed from an urban metropolis to a used to be peaceful countryside filled with wheat fields and vast hills and valleys. However, this DLC is anything but peaceful with wheat fields crammed with massive hordes of the undead and buggies that plow through each and every one of them . This DLC has everything that Dying Light has done correctly and added to it, nevertheless it fails to corrects a couple of the major down-points aswell.

The sheer scale of this DLC flat out surprised me, at first I thought they would be lucky to have a DLC map half the size of the original, it even feels huge when driving around in a broken down buggy. Although just because the map is big does not mean that it is diverse. However, it is incredibly diverse and it always feels like every field, hallway, and building is different from the next. As well, unlike Harran the whole map is incredibly beautiful. Of course Harran not being a scenic map is not a problem, it is a ruined city torn apart by a zombie apocalypse, it is not supposed to be beautiful. Still, the best addition to this DLC is the ability to drive a vehicle.

The Buggy is the single most important part of your arsenal to effectively to be a bad-ass out in the countryside. Of course you can run head on through an angry horde of a hundred angry zombies that want to eat your flesh, but why would any sane person do that when they can drive into them at 60 mph and reduce them to mince meat. As well, as there is plenty of customization options that add an entire new area of play to the game. The buggy creates another flawless area of the game, but this is not a game without its imperfections.

Nearly ever game has its flaws, some more than others. The Following in my experience just as the vanilla game recreates a pretty mediocre story. All you do is someone else’s laundry work sort of speak to gain acceptance of the higher powered people in the area. It is just boring at times having to go from point to point doing chores for people who seem to not even give a damn for your efforts. As well there are minor frame rate drops from time to time that are justified and can be foreseen. However, other than these large issues there are a couple minor bugs I have encountered, but are no means gamebreaking.

The Dying Light: The Following expansion is by far one of the best DLC’s that I have experienced in current gen gaming. It adds plenty to a game that was already great. Especially since it is $30 which is already a better price per quantity of gameplay than any of the Destiny DLC’s. Of course it is not without its as it fails to create a compelling story and solid frame rate. This is a must buy for fans of Dying Light and really anybody who likes bashing zombies brains in.

Dying Light: The Following gets an 8.5/10. (Very Good)
