The Writer and The Reader; The Need

To the dear writers out there, let’s have a very brief charge.

“Please don’t write to impress, but rather, write to educate and improve lives”. This is a statement to writers that seem to be very unrecognized in the archives of the “do 's and don’ts” or probably ethics of writing.

The truth is, most times, many of us (writers) want to really dabble into the cold room of that paper where the audience wait patiently and throw at them words that will wow and marvel them. Probably bogus words that will make interactions of anxiety and euthasiam to bring a melodious “hmm" out of their vocals.

But the sincere truth still remain; people don’t really want to read big words. Yeah, they don’t. All they need in a write up is substance. A tangible substance that will fill a vacuum in them. The substance can be a wisdom, life working principle, real ideology or know-How!

This is the first truth; every reader has a need!; the very first truth writers must understand before they pick up their pens. You are to write words that will satisfy a need. You are to express your thoughts and ideas in a way that will cause a particular vacuum in people to be filled. Until you have successfully achieved this through your write up, you have only made them a more needy and confused being! Hence, you need to first identify the need that lingers around the heart of men for that particular time before you pick up the pen.

It is true that we have our differences, and so our needs. That is why writers must be schooled in discernment to be able to deliver the accurate words that will generally feed the diverse mouth of hungry souls. There are words that in themselves can fill those diverse vacuums in people, if only we can dig those words out of our being.

The aim of this short charge is to call us to order. That we will not leave men more confused than before but our write ups will be dialogues of impactful substances! Words that will truly make people better.

A writer can be so carried away with the applause that comes with the delivery of bogus and gigantic words in his write up. And if we can really do our researches well, we will discover that most of those people that give applauding responses to such ambiguity in word usage doesn’t really understand what the write up is all about. Their emotional faculties were only triggered by the excellent grammar usage that the words carried. In fact, even if they understand, they can’t really point out the exact vacuum of knowledge the write up has filled up in them. In simplicity, what have they learnt? What has the write up communicated that when applied to their lives, can make them nothing but a better person?

It is not really about knowledge though. If it’s about knowledge, we won’t have to read anything again because almost every fibre of knowledge has been dusted. What we do most in our time is just knowledge recycling. So, it’s about the need of people. What exactly do people need to know? How will this help their life? How will this make them a better person? How will this write up fill their vacuums?

To know more and to become better persons is the aim of readers(at least, more than 70% of them). To get their vacuum filled is the major reason why they opened your write up in the first place. Hence, you need to give them that and nothing else. You don’t need to write to impress, get the message and get the pen straight on it!
