the plant-based (day 2)
Two days ago (08/06/2017), I decided to begin my plant-based journey. I came to this decision later on in the evening after finishing up my first viewing of “What the Health”. Not only did this movie make me cry, it scared me to think about where my future was heading if I didn’t make the transition to a plant-based diet and lifestyle. After seeing “Cowspiracy” back in 2015, I had no reason left to keep consuming meat and dairy. Yesterday (08/07/2017) was my first day as a self-proclaimed plant-based eater. I had plenty of hummus, some raw veggies and fruits, and made my first visit to a local Mediterranean spot called “Sassool”. At “Sassool” I enjoyed fresh pita bread with hummus, a kale super salad, and some falafel. This was my first day being plant-based and because I am learning I accidentally ordered Tzatziki forgetting that it contained dairy. Sadly, I brought the leftovers home for my parents to enjoy. Today (08/08/2017) I experienced my first “detox day”. After waking up with a splitting headache, I began to look into forums and articles discussing the detoxification from meat, dairy, refined sugars, added salts, and other unhealthy additives that are a regular part of the standard American diet. I couldn’t believe that the foods I was eating for twenty-two years of my life were toxic to my body. I was having side-effects that a heavy caffeine drinker coming off of caffeine was having! After a few ice packs and several long chugs of water, my headache began to subside around 9 P.M. and I was able to shower and start this blog. This blog post is more of an introduction into my journey so let me take a moment to say “Welcome”. Not only will you be able to follow my good and bad, but you will also get to see my journey into the “plant-based”. Take a seat, pop a bowl of “all-natural” and “butter-free” popcorn, and enjoy.
