Arguably known as the “Tom Brady” of equestrian show jumping, McLain Ward is feared by other competitors for his impressively long list of accolades, meticulous training methods, and competitive prowess. As a competitor, you can never underestimate his ability to execute when the pressure is on, and as a spectator, you can usually feel safe to put your money on him.

Just how good is McLain Ward?

In 1990, Ward became the youngest rider ever to win both the United States Equestrian Team (USET) Medal Finals and the USET Talent Derby at age 14

After turning pro, he quickly became the youngest rider to reach the $1 million mark in earnings in 1999, at age 24

Ward has an Olympic Gold medal from 2004, an Olympic Gold medal from 2008, and an Olympic Silver medal from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games

Sure, you can dedicate yourself to the sport of show jumping, train your whole life for a spot on an international team, barter your soul for a top horse (or three), and hope that you make it. Or, you could take a slightly less complicated approach and buy the farm of a two-time Olympic gold medalist and hope that some of his talent rubs off…

That’s right. World Cup Champion, World Equestrian Games gold medalist, many-time Olympian, and all-around super-human McLain Ward is selling his 5.27-acre Wellington farm at 2169 Appaloosa Trail for $4.9 million. And trust us, you’re going to get what you pay for.

A Special Place to Train and Call Home

Take a look at the grounds that have been the environment to help shape McLain Ward into being, literally, the best in the world.

The property’s main residence is comprised of four bedrooms and three baths, and was completely remodeled in 2015. Among its many highlights: brand-new hurricane impact doors and windows (because Florida), and a new kitchen and bathrooms. Outside, you can kick back after a long day in the saddle in the heated saltwater pool. And, yes, there’s a slide.

But the big draw here — and this should come as no surprise to aspiring Olympians everywhere — are the riding facilities. Ward, himself, meticulously designed the 275’ x 215’ grass riding field, which features three liverpools as well as a built-in water jump (wheels up, kids!).

There is also a 13-stall barn with three wash/grooming stalls and a paved storage area. A second barn contains eight stalls, a tack room, and two wash/grooming stalls. With six paddocks and two rings — the property has everything it needs to serve as the winter home of Ward’s top horses.

“McLain Ward is the best of the best when it comes to show jumping, so this listing is ideal for any competitors who seek to emulate the best practices of a distinguished champion,” said the property’s listing agent, Marley Overman, of Illustrated’s Wellington-based Overman Team.

In fact, the property, which is located within hacking distance of the Winter Equestrian Festival, has served as the home of some of McLain’s most iconic horses, including HH Azur, Noche De Ronda, Clinta, and Rothchild. So while you’re copying McLain’s style to work your way into the international five-star rotation, your horses can follow suit in the literal hoof prints of some of his greatest partners.

Bottom line: You may not be able to ride like McLain … yet… but now that you can officially own a piece of Ward greatness, who knows where it might lead?
