Hey John!
First, thank you for reading my blog. I find it truly humbling to have people follow me and keep up with what I’m doing when there are 1000 other ways you could be spending your time.
The short answer to your question is We Roam is as social as you want it to be. You could literally spend 24/7 with other Roamers if you wanted to or do the entire trip alone and show up on travel days.
A typical month starts off with some kind of city tour and/or welcome party, workspace orientation, language/culture intro class, a WR planned fun outing, a WR planned professional development event and a farewell party. Nothing is mandatory except the workspace orientations and if you can’t make it you simply reschedule your time.
In addition to the WR planned events and outings, there are suggested events for both personal and professional development. It could be a farmer’s market, concert, hackathon, tour, exercise event — anything which is cool while visiting the city or even a bit outside.
As far as how the group interacts it’s through Slack. We have channels for food, travel, music, nightlife, professional development, neighborhoods, etc. You can post or respond to someone else’s post. We even plan our own parties, events, celebrations, and excursions through them. Last minute meet-ups are typical. In fact, I was talking to another Roamer about your question and she told me I could share how she was feeling down, posted in the group about going out, and within minutes several of us responded and met later. It’s pretty typical.
I hope this answers your question. Feel free to ask me anything. Happy to help you make the best decision for yourself!
