There have been several articles published on the topic. I don’t have them handy right now, but they are in Remotive’s newsletters. A key takeaway is that the person has already been successful in their area. This doesn’t necessarily mean they were remote. It does mean they showed the qualities of leadership and success the company is looking for. Of course, this will depend on the company.
I agree with Hailley that niche is important. I work with virtual assistants and the more niche they are, the more easily I can match them with a client. They stand out more than other candidates and automatically seen as experts in their field versus being another worker in a general sense.
