As one commenter already pointed out, there is a lot in our beloved Constitution that is out of date. What we are feeling now, besides the abuse of executive power, that the author pointed out, is a tyranny by a minority. Part of this is the result of the way the Constitution gave power to the smaller and slave states. Part of it is due to Gerrymandering, and part to other forms of voter suppression, especially in those smaller and slave states.
The other thing that is going on is that we are in the midst of rapid social and technological changes. In times of change many people look to a powerful man who promises to restore stability. In turbulent times stability is more valued that freedom.
Trump effectively promised to make everything stable, and everything better for everyone. No one could ever deliver on those promises. Unfortunately, Trump does not even have the capacity to be a dictator, as much as he would love to be one, and Congress would let him.
Part of Tubby Trump’s problem is that he really doesn't know what he wants to accomplish, as far as the country is concerned. All he wants is to be rich and powerful, fat and play golf.
