It is, and in my view people using it don’t understand tribalism itself. Yes, humans are inherently tribal. But that tribe is very small and, most importantly, limited to direct personal association. You aren’t “tribal” with someone because you both hold the same or similar views if you don’t personally know them and interact in personal relationships frequently if not daily.

White collar northeastern people are not a tribe. Rednecks are not a tribe. Working class is not a tribe. The term “political tribalism” is a misnomer. The foundation of tribalism is beyond politics and even antithetical to it. By its nature politics overrules and counters tribalism.
