How to Maintain a Healthy Work -Life Balance

Hi, I am Dimitri Patterson, a professional NFL cornerback. My website: http://thedimitripatterson.com/
One of the major struggles of being constructively occupied is that you have to search for the right work life balance.
Getting the right work life balance is something that we all strive to achieve, but the task is herculean when you actually get down to doing it.
Here are some tips that might just help you sort it all out.
1. Get your priorities straight
Carry a diary with you at all times. It might seem unusual, weird even if you are not used to it. But believe me you, doing this will sort you straight up.
You see, writing things down on paper has s synergistic effect on your life.
When you write things down like - spend an hour with family or help out at the social centre, you will inadvertently make time out for these things. And this is when you see all your life fall beautifully into place.
2. Keep track of your time
Keeping track of your time is important because it enables you to use the only non-renewable resource that you have judiciously.
You can keep a track of your time by using apps like toggl.
3. Schedule right
When you think about your day, make sure that you think about these four quadrants of your life.
1. Work: Log in all that you want to accomplish in the day in this section. Designate a time frame and stop when the time for work ends.
2. Family: The most important aspect of your life. Make sure that you make time for your family and when you are with them, do not even think about work.
3. Personal: You need some time for personal growth, leave some time for introspection and reflection. Doing this will ensure that you are never dissatisfied with your life. This time doesn’t have to be much, half an hour a day does the trick.
4. Exercise: When you make time out for exercise you are actually making time for the most important thing in your life. Your health. Keep at least an hour for this, no matter how busy you are.
Some great ways to schedule your time can be found here.
4. Draw the right focus
When you are with your family, be with them.
And when at work, do not think about anything else. This simple technique is called compartmentalization and once you master this technique, you will find that you are always doing the right things at the right time.
5. Protect your private time
Emergencies have a nasty habit of popping up when you are just about to sit down for dinner with your family or when you are taking your kid out for that game you told him you would.
Make sure that you do not give these situations a skip to get some extra points at work. That almost never works out. Protect your private time with your life.
6. Stay healthy
This involves eating right and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, in doing this you will find yourself to be better focused, clear headed and more organised than you used to.
7. Take a break
When things get way out of hand, and when nothing seems to make sense anymore, it is a great idea to just run away, take a break and let things sort themselves out.
You will love yourself for doing this.
8. Talk it out
When you feel that you haven’t been doing justice to one aspect of your life (this is most commonly your family), just talk about all that has been keeping you from giving them time.
A heart to heart is always the best way to make them understand your situation.
9. Get professional help
There are professionals out there that can really help you sort your things out. Consider getting professional help only when all the steps mentioned above have failed to generate results.
10. Work out
Working out helps your body release endorphin, they are feel good hormones. And you know what they say, when you feel good, anything’s possible. Here’s where you can get pro fitness tips.
11. Learn how to say no
There are certain situations in your life where you want to say yes. Like when that friend of yours wants to go have coffee with you but you know that doing this will get you late for that dinner with your mum, the one that you’ve been putting off for a month.
Never try to squeeze too much in your schedule. Doing this is only going to cause you more distress and dissatisfaction than you deserve.Read all about saying no the right way here.
12. Find someone to follow
Do you know someone who is a pro at maintaining work life balance? Do you know someone who seems to have it all? Ask this person what his/her secret is.
The happiest people are those that manage to find time for both work and life.
Be that guy now!
