Let’s watch Bo Jackson lead off the 1989 All-Star Game with a mammoth home run
July 11. Big day in world history. The day Tim Duncan retired from the NBA. The day Babe Ruth made his major league debut as a Red Sox pitcher in 1914. The day Aaron Burr killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel in 1804. The day the Florida Marlins traded for Mike Mordecai in 2002.
Bo Jackson also did something on July 11 when he led off the 1989 All-Star game with this mammoth 448-foot home run over the centerfield wall off of Giants starter Rick Reuschel.

You’ve got the President of the United States of America Ronald Reagan in the booth with the legendary Vin Scully and Bo Jackson just steals the show. That’s so Bo Jackson. Jackson was named All-Star Game MVP after becoming the second player ever to hit a home run and steal a base in the All-Star Game.
Bo Jackson’s 1989 should go down as one of the most incredible for any athlete in history. Jackson spent his summer hitting 32 home runs for the Kansas City Royals, finishing top 10 in MLB MVP voting, and doing stuff like this:

All he did after baseball ended was show up during Week 7 of the 1989 NFL season and run for 950 yards and four touchdowns on 173 carries for the Los Angeles Raiders. Trying to figure out when to draft half a NFL season of Bo Jackson would have been a fantasy football nightmare.
Amazingly, neither his MLB All-Star season nor his career-high 950 rushing yards were Bo’s greatest contributions to society in 1989.
