In what can only be described as scraping the bottom of the barrel, Freeform and Marvel have decided to turn the New Warriors superhero team into a major TV show, despite the series having been created as a home for misfit heroes.

The majority of team members have names that sound like enjoyable combinations of drugs, like Speedball and Turbo. Apparently, these guys get brought in occasionally to assist the Avengers… pretty bad ass.

According to The Hollywood Reporter,

Milana Vayntrub (This Is Us) has landed the breakout role of Squirrel Girl, while Baby Daddy grad Derek Theler will stay in business with Freeform after landing the role of Mister Immortal in Marvel’s first live-action scripted comedy.

And here’s how they pitched the series,

The duo lead the ensemble cast in the 10-episode series about six young people learning to cope with their abilities in a world where bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates. Joining Vayntrub and Theler are Jeremy Tardy as Night Thrasher, Calum Worthy as Speedball, Matthew Moy as Microbe and Kate Comer as Debrii.

Sadly, it’s probably not the DeBrie from Arrested Development.

Anyway, here’s hoping that Squirrel Girl can manage to cope with her abilities. I guess the ability to talk to squirrels could drive you a little nuts, though.
