I think the vending machine is a good example of a mechanical smart contract, for lack of a better term. Specifically, the dumb goods are guarded and transported by a system that operates on a smart contract.

The danger is, like with vending machines, that something gets stuck and you lose your coins… wanting you to shake the machine violently until something falls out.
