It’s Time to Start Talking About Decentralization
Hello. I was on a hiatus, taking a much needed mental vacation from my full suite of apps project.
Now, back to seriousness.
Starting off with a comment I made:
“I don’t know about you but I am sick of living in a highly advanced civilization where we have the technology to live in abundance and peace but we live under archaic economic and governance systems that empower a handful of people with power to ruin and destroy the world.
Its time to overhaul humanity.”
And to achieve this, we do it through decentralization.
If you are unfamiliar with the term “decentralization” let’s break it down.
“Centralization” is basically the consolidation of something, often in terms of control or power, into one or a small handful of controlling entities.
Here are some critical examples of centralization and entities that are enslaving humanity:
Centralization of the food supply by companies such as ADM, PepsiCo, Tyson, Nestle, Kraft, General Mills, Coca-Cola, Hormel, Monsanto
Centralization of the communication infrastructure by companies such as ATT, Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner, T — Mobile, Lumen, Frontier
Centralization of internet and software by companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe, SalesForce, Oracle, Cisco, Workday
Centralization of retail sales by companies like Wal — Mart, CostCo, Sam’s Club, Target, Alberston’s, Kroger
And crucially, centralization of the money supply by the Federal Reserve and all the banks like Wells Fargo, Chase, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs
I will let you use your imagination to think of other companies who have centralized various industries.
Now, the prefix “de” means “to undo, to remove, to reverse, away from.”
Thus, decentralization is the movement to undo, remove, reverse and move away from centralization.
Yes, we humans of the 21st Century (in the 1st/2nd world nations) have a really high standard of living and ease of life, living in a fairly centralized industrialized civilization. We have a plethora of places to shop, plenty of food to choose from, doctors to see, gyms to go to, TV and YouTube to watch. Life is pretty good…but for a growing majority, this centralized society is leaving many behind and making life unnecessarily difficult and distressing. Capitalism is innovating so rapidly that jobs are going away and the archaic 17th Century form of governance has no plan to address the coming waves of job losses and inability for tens of millions to survive economically; furthermore, companies have no incentive to really care about the people it innovates out of work so long as they meet their quarterly projections for shareholders. We already see how a centralized industrial civilization is leaving people in the dust, coating them with despair and depression, causing all sorts of mental illnesses and drug addictions, leaving them hopelessness, frustrated, powerless and without meaning. And this is just the beginning of the waves to come.
Most concerning is the stupid reactionary god fearing masses who think in 17th century terms will rally behind their Cult of Personalities leaders who will cause civil unrest and lead to world wars in the name of ego, patriotism and preserving the nation — and how frustrating it is to know that humanity is on the verge of a massive breakthrough to a truly abundant and peaceful civilization that may be blown by a bunch of irrational, childish fools.
But we can stop the unruly and uneducated masses from ruing humanity’s potential future through decentralization. By decentralizing industries that I mentioned above, like the food, communications, internet, retail and money, we can undermine their power and their control. So I want you to open your Overton Window, suspend your pessimism and disbelief - I want you to use your imagination and I want you to envision a small glimpse of what decentralizing can do for humanity.
Imagine that you walk down into your basement, open your closet, go in your backyard and open your shed and see walls and shelves full of food you have grown yourself.
I want you to image that your neighborhood has a shared vertical farm full of various greens and vegetables.
I want you to imagine that your old smartphone you were going to throw away is now working just fine and even better than what it once did, connected to a free or low cost mesh network run by your neighbors running on an open source OS
I want you techies to imagine having your own severs connected to everyone else’s on that mesh p2p network.
I want you to imagine running your own web app platforms free of censorship, spying and control.
I want you to imagine people working in their apartments, garages and workshops, making the things we need with 3d printers and laser cutters and routers and whatever tools, collaborating together
Most importantly, I want you to imagine people paying each other with their own peer 2 peer and local currencies, free from the control of banks and the Federal Reserve.
I want you to think about decentralization and how it might free humanity in so many aspects. Granted, it is no silver bullet but decentralization can render the Elite Ruling Ownership Class obsolete.
I want you to think about true freedom, abundance and peace through decentralization.
And I want you to realize we have all the technology and know how today!
