Ingrid, thank you for this incredibly thoughtful and important post. You’ve addressed the problem and practical ways to address them . Unfortunately, sexual harassment in all its forms is real, persistent and pervasive in all organizations. I presented a sexual harassment claim against someone at an international development organization who was viewed openly from the Presidents and VPs as a predator and was encouraged by HR to file a claim to “finally get this snake.” He lost his job for his actions but he effectively damaged my reputation by disparaging me to colleagues of +25 years. Candidly, I never would have pursued the case had I known the impact to me.
