Watsons Bay
Kendalle, my partner in crime at Brown and in San Francisco, has done a wonderful job of welcoming me to Sydney. Our first weekend she brought us to the Dunbar House, a wonderful brunch spot overlooking Watsons Bay. We liked it so much we went back the following weekend to hike some of the trails we had driven past.
A bit of history, the South Head was used as a lookout in the early colonial days since it had views to Botany Bay (the original landing site of the colonists before they shifted to Sydney Harbor) and back to the main settlement that would become Sydney to signal the arrival of ships. A ferry has been running to the Watsons Bay area since 1854! The area today is full of big houses with big views, but still a lot of public space and a wonderful, welcoming vibe.
Watsons Bay has a hike up to the South Head and stunning views back to the city. Because the winter is so mild here, people still dine outdoors on restaurant patios with heaters and lap blankets. We had a flatbread and some Sauvignon Blanc while watching the sun set. Are you jealous yet?
I will let the pictures speak for themselves.
