That is a kind of knowing, but what I mean by knowing is to be familiar with the individual rocks and trees, and to have experience with the features of the land such as the thickets and the game trails, the things that could never be known from an intensive study of a topo map or knowledge of similar country. To know a country is to have traveled it in all of its seasons. The answer I come to when I put the question that way, although I have no way of being certain, is that no one knows this island, likely no one ever has or ever will.
